White Pine field trip, July 21

Saturday, July 21, 2018. 8:30 am. White Pine Chapter field trip—Forest Insects and Tree Health
Leader: Dr. Steve Cook, Professor, Forest Entomology and Plant Pathology, University of Idaho
Location: starting at UI Arboretum Red Barn parking lot and then moving to multiple forest sites to examine forest health and insect activity

Please meet at the Red Barn parking lot at the UI Arboretum (1200 W. Palouse River Dr., Moscow) at 8:30 am for the initial group program and inspecting certain trees for insect activity. From there we will carpool to Nancy & Reid Miller’s home 3 miles east of Viola for a brief look at trees killed by Douglas-fir beetles. We will then drive to private forest land near Potlatch and Onaway to see other tree-insect interactions.

The trip will probably last into early afternoon. We will be fairly close to the cars at each stop. Bring plenty of water, substantial snacks, sun protection and walking shoes.
