Bald Mountain Hike, August 2, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; Sun Valley ski area (River Run)

In late summer in the Wood River Valley we can still find blooming wildflowers at high elevations. Access to Bald Mountain (Baldy), at about 9,000 feet via the Sun Valley River Run gondola and the Christmas chair lift gives us easy access to these high elevation blooming plants, as well as the native trees and shrubs that thrive at these high elevations. We’ll also discuss forest health.

Meet at the base of River Run, by the picnic table and close to where gondola tickets are purchased. Gondola tickets cost $20 per person. We’ll ride the gondola and the chair lift up the mountain as a loose group and regroup at the top of the chair lift for the hike down the Bald Mountain trail. The hike will end at the Round House connector no later than 3:00 pm.  Participants can choose to ride the gondola down, have meal at the Roundhouse restaurant, or they can use designated trails to hike to the bottom on their own.
